You Can Make A Difference!

Yallalba Non-Profit Organization's Rural Enrichment Program is made possible through volunteerism and financial or supply donations. For as little as $10, your tax-deductible donation can fund a child's education for an entire month--that's only $0.33 per day!

In addition to financial contributions, we are glad to accept any books or educational materials in lieu of monetary donations. Please review our Book & Material Donations section, as we do have some guidelines regarding what we can accept to help further the education of The Gambia's students. If you have questions regarding any books or materials you wish to donate, please Contact Us and a volunteer will be glad to answer your question(s).

To make a contribution, you may do so through our secure PayPal checkout system, or by U.S. mail. We accept checks, money orders, cashier's checks, and all major credit cards. To make your donation, please see our options, below.

Guidelines for Donating New Children's Books

Books are a key in getting the children of Gambia's villages excited about learning. Without access to the Internet, their natural curiosity and imagination can be stimulated by having their own books . We appreciate your interest in donating books to Yallal Inc. One of the main reasons our organization has been able to impact so many children's lives is because of the generous involvement and support from people like you. The following are some general guidelines for collecting new children's books for our program.

The following types of books are much-needed in the villages where we are serving:

  • Simple children's storybooks (think Clifford the Big Red Dog or Hop on Pop ).
  • ABC and 123 books, or anything suitable to teaching young children the English language.
  • Picture books for young children who cannot yet read.
  • Hardcover books with durable covers
  • Educational books that are fun - science, geography, math, world history, etc.
  • Easy beginner's novels for older children (but remember English is their second language).

  • Certain materials and subjects are NOT accepted by Yallal Inc, including:

  • Culturally-sensitive or inappropriate materials (examples would include sports cars, single parent families, and other things that are issues in the US, but not Gambia.
  • Religious books (we are non-denominational, and do not promote any religion)
  • Books not appropriate for young children.
  • All books printed in any language other than English.
  • Fiction such as "dime-store" novels, mysteries, romance.
  • Journals and magazines.
  • Textbooks
  • Supplementary materials such as: Lab Manuals, Study Guides, Teacher's Editions, and Workbooks.

  • NOTE: Yallal, Inc. is unable to accept used book donations. After reviewing our individual book donation program, we found that it actually costs Yallal, Inc. more time and money to sort and ship used books from private residences than to ship new books donated directly by children's book publishers, or to buy new books within The Gambia.
